What is HELINN?

HELINN is The Home of Natural Fibers.

We are a lifestyle brand dedicated to discovering, curating, and celebrating some of the world's most beautiful natural fibers. Our collections currently feature premium European linen clothing and handcrafted Golden Grass jewelry from Brazil, chosen for their exceptional craftsmanship, timeless beauty, and connection to nature.

Every collection reflects our commitment to natural materials, thoughtful design, and lasting quality.

Born from the earth. Made to be lived in.

What does HELINN mean?

HELINN represents the union of nature, craftsmanship, and timeless design.
The name reflects our belief that the most beautiful products begin with the earth. While the name itself is unique to our brand, its meaning has grown alongside our mission: to become a trusted destination where people can discover exceptional natural fibers from around the world.

Today, HELINN stands for authenticity, curiosity, education, and a deep respect for the artisans and traditions behind every piece we curate.

Why did you start HELINN?

HELINN began with curiosity.

More than fifteen years ago, our founder, Christiane Dutra, discovered Golden Grass while visiting Brazil. She was fascinated that a simple plant could become naturally golden jewelry without dyes or paint, crafted entirely by the hands of local artisans.
That experience sparked a lifelong appreciation for natural materials and traditional craftsmanship.

Years later, that same curiosity led her to European linen. As she learned about flax, she discovered another extraordinary natural fiber with a rich history, remarkable durability, and timeless elegance.

Rather than creating just another clothing brand, she envisioned HELINN as a place where people could learn about the materials they wear, understand the stories behind them, and reconnect with nature through thoughtfully curated products.

What is HELINN's mission?

Our mission is to reconnect people with nature through exceptional natural fibers.

We curate timeless products made from natural materials while sharing the stories, history, and craftsmanship behind them.

We believe that education creates appreciation, and appreciation inspires more thoughtful choices.

What is HELINN's vision?

Our vision is to become The Home of Natural Fibers.

We aspire to be the first place people think of when they want to discover beautiful natural materials, timeless craftsmanship, and thoughtfully made products.

As HELINN grows, we will continue exploring and introducing natural fibers from around the world while remaining committed to education, sustainability, and exceptional quality.

European Linen

What is linen?

Linen is one of the world's oldest and most respected natural textiles. It is made from the fibers of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum), a crop that has been cultivated for thousands of years.

Known for its breathability, durability, and timeless beauty, linen has been worn by civilizations throughout history—from ancient Egypt to modern Europe—and continues to be one of the most valued natural fabrics today.

Unlike synthetic fabrics, linen begins as a plant grown in the earth and is transformed through a remarkable process into fabric that becomes softer and more beautiful with every wear.

At HELINN, linen represents much more than a fabric—it represents craftsmanship, heritage, and a closer connection to nature.

What is flax?

Flax is the plant from which linen is made.
Tall, slender, and topped with delicate blue flowers during its growing season, flax has been cultivated for over 8,000 years.

Every part of the flax plant has value. The long fibers inside the stem become linen fabric, while the seeds are used to produce flaxseed oil and nutritious foods, making it one of nature's most sustainable crops.

Are flax and linen the same thing?

Not exactly.
Think of it this way:

  • Flax is the plant.
  • Linen is the fabric produced from the

fibers inside the flax stem.

It's similar to saying:
Cotton plant → Cotton fabric
The plant is harvested, processed, spun into yarn, and woven into linen fabric.

Where is flax grown?

Flax is grown in several parts of the world, but the finest flax is widely recognized as coming from Western Europe.

The ideal growing region stretches across:

  • Belgium
  • Northern France
  • The Netherlands

This region offers the perfect combination of climate, soil, and rainfall needed to produce exceptionally long and strong flax fibers.

These premium fibers are often woven into linen in countries such as Lithuania, where generations of textile craftsmanship continue today.

Why is Belgian flax considered the best?

Belgium has built a worldwide reputation for producing exceptional flax because of its unique growing conditions.

The combination of rich soil, mild temperatures, regular rainfall, and centuries of farming expertise creates fibers that are:

  • Longer
  • Stronger
  • More uniform
  • Exceptionally soft after finishing

Many of the world's finest linen fabrics begin with Belgian-grown flax.
