The Linen of HELINN
About Our Linen
Not all linen is created equally.
Two garments can both say 100% linen and still feel completely different. The quality of the flax, fiber length, spinning, weaving, fabric weight, finishing, washing, and garment construction all influence softness, strength, drape, breathability, and longevity.
At HELINN, we wanted to understand those differences for ourselves. Our linen journey has taken us to Belgium and Lithuania, where I personally learned more about European flax, linen processing, textile craftsmanship, and the people behind the material. Today, HELINN works primarily with European linen makers, with pieces produced in Lithuania and selected styles made in Italy.
We look beyond the words “100% linen.” We consider fiber origin, GSM, finishing, construction, fit, comfort, opacity, durability, traceability, and recognized textile certifications where available.
Because good linen begins long before the garment is sewn.

Rooted in Flax
Linen begins with flax — a natural fiber valued for its strength, breathability, and longevity.
For HELINN, understanding where that fiber comes from matters. I traveled to Belgium to experience flax and linen production more closely and to see firsthand how much happens before a finished fabric ever reaches a sewing table.
The quality of linen begins with the plant itself. Flax variety, growing conditions, retting, fiber length, preparation, and spinning can all influence how the finished textile feels and performs. Longer, well-processed fibers generally create smoother, stronger, and more refined linen.
That is why two fabrics labeled 100% linen may look, feel, and age very differently.

Crafted with Intention
Turning flax into linen requires knowledge, patience, and generations of textile craftsmanship.
From fiber preparation to spinning, weaving, finishing, garment washing, and sewing, every stage contributes to the character of the final piece. HELINN works primarily with experienced European linen makers, including partners in Lithuania, and we are now introducing selected linen pieces made in Italy.
We also pay close attention to GSM — grams per square meter. Lightweight linen can feel exceptionally airy for hot weather, while midweight linen provides more structure and coverage. There is no single “best” weight; the right GSM depends on the garment and how it is meant to be worn.
Where verified, our linen collections may also carry recognized certifications such as OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and European flax-related certifications. Certification information can vary by product, so we document verified details at the individual product level.

Made to Be Lived In
The final test of linen happens when you wear it.
We choose linen for the way it performs in real life: breathable in warm climates, comfortable against the skin, naturally textured, versatile, and strong enough to remain part of a wardrobe for years.
Many HELINN pieces are washed or stonewashed to soften the fibers and create the relaxed movement and hand feel associated with quality linen. And unlike fabrics that need to remain perfectly unchanged to look beautiful, linen develops character with wear. It softens, moves with the body, and becomes more personal over time.
Its natural wrinkles are part of that story.
For HELINN, quality means more than a beautiful garment. It means understanding the material, choosing it intentionally, and creating pieces meant to become part of real life.
Born from the Earth. Crafted by Hand. Meant to Be Lived In.
From Earth, Meant to Last
At HELINN, what we create begins with nature. Linen is one of the world’s most enduring natural fibers — breathable, biodegradable, and beautiful in its raw honesty. We choose it not only for how it feels, but for what it represents: a slower, more intentional way of living.
From flax fields to finished fabric, we value materials with integrity, craftsmanship with purpose, and pieces designed to be worn, loved, and kept.
